Experience the thrill of surfing in one of Maui’s most beginner-friendly surf spots—Kihei. Known for its warm waters, gentle waves, and sunny skies, Kihei is the perfect place to learn how to surf, whether you’re a complete beginner or brushing up on your skills.

Our surf lessons in Kihei are led by experienced, certified instructors who prioritize safety, fun, and personalized attention. You’ll start with a land-based briefing where you’ll learn ocean safety, paddling techniques, and how to pop up on your board. Then it’s time to hit the water and ride the waves with the guidance of your instructor right beside you.

Lessons are typically held in small groups to ensure each student gets plenty of one-on-one coaching. We offer surf lessons for individuals, couples, and families—with soft-top boards, rash guards, and all equipment included.

Whether you’re checking surfing off your bucket list or looking for a fun activity on Maui’s south shore, our Kihei surf lessons promise a memorable, empowering experience for all ages.

Activity Details

You'll be greeted by your surfing instructor, who will teach you all the basic surfing skills on the ground, before you start riding the Maui waves.  Once in the water you'll have the opportunity to put those skills to action with your instructor's assistance.

  • Group lessons: Up to 6 participants per instructor (Must be 12 or older)
  • Semi Private: Two participants per instructor
  • Private: One participant per instructor
Additional Information

Due to safety reasons, group classes are only recommended for kids 10 & up. Parents should consider whether or not their kids should participate in a group environment based on their kids' swimming abilities and how comfortable they feel in the water.  Group lessons feature only one instructor who must pay attention to the entire group.  

Group Lesson Restrictions:
Due to safety reasons the following restrictions apply:
Kids 8-11 years old MUST join a SEMI-PRIVATE or PRIVATE lesson
Kids ages 7 & younger MUST join a PRIVATE (1 on 1) lesson
